Here Are the Best Day Hikes in the Sawtooth Mountains

1. Fishhook Creek

Fishhook Creek Trail offers one of the best day hikes in the Sawtooth Mountains for families. You can access the trailhead from the gravel lot near our Lodge. Follow the rushing creek for a four to five-mile roundtrip depending on how far you hike. The beautiful meadows, surrounding mountains, and babbling brooks provide a stunning backdrop!

2. Bench Lakes

As you climb the Bench Lakes Trail all the way to the scenic collection of lakes, the Sawtooth Wilderness treats you to amazing views from the ridges high above Redfish Lake. This set of five lakes sits at the base of Mount Heyburn and other Sawtooth peaks and provides breathtaking views, so make sure you bring your camera along with you. You’ll probably even see deer, elk, and other wildlife!

3. Bridal Veil Falls

If you’re looking to see one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the Sawtooths, make sure that a hike to Bridal Veil Falls is on your list. This hike takes you through colorful meadows, beautiful forests, and an old mining road. Once you reach the end of the trail, you’ll see the falls cascading down a mountain.

4. Alpine Lake

Start the gorgeous hike to Alpine Lake by taking the Redfish Trailhead Boat Shuttle to the Redfish Inlet Trailhead. Once you disembark the shuttle, you’ll follow the trail on an 11-mile out-and-back hike that passes by small creeks and waterfalls, scenic peaks, and mountain lakes. It’s definitely a strenuous day hike, but the views and scenery make it well worth your time!

5. Sawtooth Lake

Sawtooth Lake is one of the best day hikes in the Sawtooth Mountains. It’s one of the most popular treks in our area and has a moderately difficult trail rating. The 10-mile round trip hike grants beautiful views of the incredible alpine lake and surrounding wilderness area. You can access the trailhead by driving through Stanley and turning onto Highway 21. It’s only about 30 minutes from the Redfish Lake Lodge.
