A few weeks before giving birth to my second son, I experienced overwhelming exhaustion.
I could barely take care of myself, let alone my two-year-old. And after the arrival of my newborn, the growing exhaustion stifled my desire to work on this blog altogether.
The days grew into one endless stream of diaper changes, feedings, and juggling between two-year-old tantrums and newborn neediness. And as I survived each bout of chaos, blogging was the furthest thought from my mind.
But I knew that God wanted me to get back to work. After all, it was His calling for me.
Praying Through It
Though I was so burnt out from my new routine, I had no idea how I was going to muster the motivation to continue His work. And so, with the little energy I had available, I could only pray.
I prayed in the shower, at breakfast, and in the early morning hours of breastfeeding. And God answered me with the reassuring Scripture of Jeremiah 1:5.
“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you:
A prophet to the nations— that’s what I had in mind for you.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
God knew me, even before He created me. He laid the plans for my life well before I came into existence.
And He knew I would experience exhaustion, discouragement, and despairing thoughts throughout the final weeks of my pregnancy and into the first few weeks of becoming a mom of two. So God wasn’t surprised with my pregnant promotion because it was part of His plan.
He wasn’t surprised when I put blogging on hold to adjust to having two kids. And He isn’t surprised with what you are experiencing right now.
Isn’t it encouraging to know that God isn’t shocked by our pauses, delays, and setbacks in life and all the troubling emotions that come with them? What’s even more encouraging is that He is the one that can get us through these wildernesses in order to get us back on top of the mountain!
How? By praying and meditating on the truth of Scripture, like Jeremiah 1:5.
Because He has already laid out our steps. And what a relief to know that despite our ups and downs, His amazing plan is always on schedule!
