I did not know that I was an unloving and unforgiving person.
I would hold people to an unreasonable standard, of which I could never meet. Yet somehow, it seemed that my own moral compass was never wrong.
Until I got close to Jesus. He showed me the many repairs that my compass needed by gently pointing out character flaws.
For one, I was extremely self-righteous and an unholy judge of others. But in my own mind, I thought I was wise, honest, and just.
Especially when I thought it admirable to warn close friends and family of unacceptable behavior and the poor character traits of others. Sadly, this drove me further away from love, poisoning not only my earthly relationships, but also my relationship with Christ.
Experiencing Real Love
So how did God fix my broken compass? By showing me what real love is.
God’s love does not come with standards and expectations. He gives it freely and consistently, no matter what I do or don’t do in my walk with Him… rain or shine.
And He even loves me when I fall into temptation. I had never experienced that kind of selfless and forgiving love before, but when I did, I realized how much I had been missing!
So what about you? Have you experienced the amazing love of God in your life?
Because if you have, then forgiveness becomes the norm and dwelling on flaws becomes unnatural. So unnatural that you can’t help but feel gross when words of judgement cross over your lips.
You feel sadness over thinking unlovely things; things not worthy of praise or lacking excellence. And when you desire to “warn” others, you realize that warning system actually is a separating system.
A separating system founded upon unforgiveness, instability, and unjust perception. Who wants to own a system like that?
I know I don’t! So, dear friends, become aware of your unloving thoughts and ask God to clean them up for you.
Take ownership today, and allow Him to fix your broken moral compass. Because when He does, there’s is nothing standing in the way of you and the amazing plans God has for your life!
